This course provides an overview of Navy Shipboard Compressed Air Systems for Submarines. It covers some basic physics regarding compressed gases, common system design practices, as well as details on major system components. Topics include compressed air basics, uses of compressed air on Navy submarines, types and classes of compressed air systems, main ballast systems, high pressure air plants and systems, service air systems, safety concerns, piping and valves, Level I material identification and control, and major components (including compressors, dehydrators, pressure vessels, pressure reducing manifolds, and hygrometers and dew point monitoring).
