Section 508 Compliance
Sunset Design & Programming, Inc. is an expert in creating Section 508 compliant web-based trainings and digital materials.
Accessibility is fundamental to every stage of our development process. We ensure that our products provide the same experience to all users, without compromising on presentation quality or user engagement.
Section 508 Testing
Every training course produced by Sunset Design is tested start-to-finish with government-approved screen reader software by dedicated staff under real-world conditions, not through automated programs. Sunset Design follows the U.S. Access Board baseline for testing web content, ensuring all training courses are fully compliant with current Section 508 regulations and policies.
Not only does Sunset Design create an end product that is fully Section 508 compliant, but we have also authored educational materials on the topic, presenting numerous training sessions as a subject matter expert to government personnel. Our programmers and quality control staff are certified through the DHS Office of Accessible Systems & Technology (OAST) Trusted Tester Web Certification Program.
“Ultimately, Sunset Design is an absolute pleasure to work with. They whole-heartedly care about the end user experience, ensuring 508 standards are met to the highest degree, and that they are producing content that their customer can be proud of.”

Section 508 FAQs
What is Section 508?
Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to add Section 508, requiring Federal agencies to make their Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) accessible to people with disabilities. In August 2021, the U.S. Access Board released a baseline for testing web content. The Testing Baseline for Web Accessibility sets minimum testing criteria and evaluation guidance to determine if web content meets the Section 508 Standards.
What does Sunset Design do to comply with Section 508?
Sunset Design follows the U.S. Access Board baseline for testing web content, ensuring all training courses are fully compliant with current Section 508 regulations and policies. We provide closed captioning for all audio content so hearing-impaired users receive a word-for-word representation of the audio portion of the training. All training content is fully supported by Freedom Scientific JAWS and other Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) compatible screen reader software. Complete descriptions of all on-screen content are provided in real time and all training features and functionality are accessible through keyboard shortcuts allowing participants with visual disabilities to take these training courses without outside assistance. Full instructions for taking the training with assistive software are provided with every course. All graphical information is supported with text descriptions to accurately convey content for individuals with color vision impairment and color blindness. A word-for-word transcript for users with cognitive learning differences is provided. Training courses are manually tested start-to-finish with screen reader software before release, verifying that all on-screen content is precisely described and that all navigation and interaction are accessible without assistance.
What makes Sunset Design qualified for Section 508 compliance?
